Diode laser engravers are very popular in the market as they are very affordable and ideal for starting a laser engraving business. Diodes are semiconductors made by combining p-type and n-type materials. One side of the diode is p-type and the other side is n-type.
P-type and n-type materials are joined together, and this junction is called a p-n junction. A laser beam is emitted from the junction. After a potential difference is applied across the diode, electrons move from n-type to p-type and holes in p-type move to n-type, it works like an LED, but the output is very intense and coherent, consisting of a single frequency.
The beam from the diode is deflected using mirrors and passed through a converging lens. They focus a laser beam into a very fine spot, which generates intense heat. The material the laser beam falls on evaporates quickly.
