The Atomstack A5 Pro Laser Engraver Review

The Atomstack A5 Pro is a powerful and versatile laser engraver that brings the power of professional-grade equipment to your home. This machine is designed for all types of users, from amateurs to professionals.

The Atomstack A5 Pro is a high-end machine, in the same price range as the Sculpfun S9 and Ortur Laser Master 2. Like the Sculpfun and Ortur, the A5 Pro laser engraver also comes with a good assembly instruction manual that is very simple to follow. All necessary tools are included. Screws and parts come in separate bags and are labeled according to the necessary steps in the assembly manual. The machine can be assembled in 30 minutes.

Laser diode
The Atomstack A5 Pro laser engraver is equipped with a laser diode that outputs approximately 5.5W of optical power. A laser diode is a great fixed focus diode. The laser diode is said to have a square beam spot shape. We will test this later in this article.

Fixed focus means there are no moving parts in the beam path, which means the focus can be narrower and the focusing process much faster than with an adjustable focus.

There is a protective hood around the head as an extra layer of protection, but it is still necessary to wear the included safety goggles. I also recommend that you use a higher quality protection google that has OD6+ protection. You only have one pair of eyes. protect them! These lasers work in the visible spectrum and even the reflection can be very harmful to your eyes!

Cutting and engraving different materials
Engraving: wood, leather, cotton (clothing), rubber, paper, glass, mirror, acrylic, black anodized aluminum, ferrous metal, even stainless steel...

The Atomstack A5 Pro is also a capable cutter.
Cutting: wood, paper, tape, fabric, acrylic, cardboard...

With this machine, you can cut paper and tape in one pass and cut cardboard or wood multiple times. The machine can cut wood, especially poplar plywood, which is soft and the wood of choice for all laser cutters.

Software and Supported Formats
You can use the Atomstack A5 Pro laser engraver with the free LaserGRBL software to great effect. This software is great for testing and those just starting to sculpt, but with time and experience you may need a better version, we recommend Lightburn, a more powerful software and very intuitive to use. But it's not free, the license costs a little. However, the software offers a 1-month fully functional free trial, which will help you decide if it's worth it. Thereafter, the lifetime fee is $60. For most of the businesses we mentor, it's definitely worth it because it saves a lot of time.

With LaserGRBL you can import vector files (NC, BMP, JPG, PNG, DXF...) and bitmap image files (bmp, jpg, png and gif),

The vector format is the preferred format for these machines because it contains the path around the edge of the shape that the laser head traces. Engraving vector files is faster because the laser cuts directly on the path instead of scanning like a printer and making dots while engraving a bitmap image (photo).

You can get millions of free vector designs on the internet, or use a free vector drawing program like Inkscape or QCAD (for more technical drawings)
You can also import tons of vector designs and images from online free vector sites.
